  • Mamelodi Sundowns are reportedly seeking a deadline day deal for Thembinkosi Lorch
  • The Brazilians already reinforced the squad with Zuko Mdunyelwa and Matías Esquivel
  • Lars Veldwijk's potential short-term 'Downs deal was abandoned due to a split opinion

Mamelodi Sundowns are reportedly pursuing a last-minute transfer deal to bring Orlando Pirates' playmaker, Thembinkosi Lorch to their squad.

Simultaneously, the club has secured the signing of highly-rated Tashreeq Matthews from IK Sirius.

Long-time admirers of Lorch, Sundowns have been at the centre of speculation surrounding the player's potential move to Chloorkop for the past six months.

Insiders close to Pirates have stated that Lorch has informed his teammates about the possibility of leaving before the transfer window closes, as reported by iDiskiTimes.

While personal terms are believed to have been agreed upon with Masandwana, the completion of the transfer hinges on both clubs reaching an agreement on the transfer fee.

Sundowns bolster squad with new signings

In another development, Sundowns successfully negotiated terms with 23-year-old Matthews.

The forward, known for his standout performance in the Allsvenskan last season with 11 goals and 10 assists in 33 games, is currently undergoing a medical in Denmark, an hour away from his base in Sweden.

Rulani Mokwena's side has also reinforced their squad with the acquisitions of right-back, Zuko Mdunyelwa and playmaker, Matías Esquivel from Chippa United and Club Atletico Lanus, respectively.

As reported by Goal, the addition of Esquivel is particularly significant for Sundowns, filling the gap left by the departure of Haashim Domingo and enhancing the team's midfield quality.

Sundowns were initially considering the transfer of Lars Veldwijk, a 32-year-old South Africa international, who had been a free agent since leaving FC Suwon in the K-League.

However, the club has now decided against signing him, citing a divided opinion within the technical team regarding his potential role in the squad, despite the short-term nature of the proposed deal.

With the arrival of Esquivel and Mdunyelwa, Sundowns appear poised to make one more addition to their squad before the transfer window closes. Their next PSL fixture is against Golden Arrows on February 13 at the Mpumalanga Stadium.
