Aubrey Modiba has been told to dump Mamelodi Sundowns and move to Europe following his eye-catching performances for South Africa at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The 28-year-old star has been one of the standout players for Bafana Bafana as they secured their spot in the Round of 16 with one loss, one victory, and a draw to finish the group stage with four points.
According to iDiski Times, Modiba disclosed that a Malian opponent advised him to quit the South African Premier Soccer League and move to Europe after dropping a masterclass against the Eagles.
“Yeah, funny enough, after the game, that guy from Mali asked me where I was playing; I said I was playing in South Africa, and he said, ‘No, my friend, you need to go overseas. That’s what he said, and I was like, ‘Oh, actually, there are like a lot of opportunities here’.
Modiba presently has 16 appearances for South Africa and is expected to start in their Round of 16 clash against Morocco.

Meanwhile, Aubrey Modiba has achieved an incredible milestone at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations as one of the best defenders in the tournament due to his display for South Africa, Kick Off reports.
The Mamelodi Sundowns defender completed the most ball recoveries during the AFCON group stage, recovering possession more than 30 times in three games in the group phase.
Modiba has been one of Hugo Broos’ standout performers who has comfortably marshalled the South African defence throughout the tournament in Ivory Coast.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that South Africa's first mountain to overcome as they seek to lift a second Africa Cup of Nations title is Morocco's Atlas Lions in the Round of 16.
The winner of South Africa vs Morocco will earn what looks like an easy tie in the quarter-final against the winners of the Cape Verde or Mauritania game.
Up next will be a semifinal tie where Bafana Bafana could possibly face either Nigeria, Cameroon, Namibia or Angola.
