  • Salah will miss Egypt's knockout games at the Africa Cup of Nations

Mohamed Salah has responded to his critics following the backlash the Egypt captain received after news surfaced that he was leaving the team’s camp in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations to return to England.

The 31-year-old forward has flown back to Liverpool to undergo rehabilitation for a hamstring injury picked up in the Pharaoh’s second AFCON match against Ghana, which ruled him out for most of the competition.

According to KingFut, Salah used his social media to send a message to his critics, reiterating the fact that he would rejoin Egypt’s squad ‘as soon as possible’ to help the team.

"Yesterday, I started the therapy and rehabilitation program, and I will do everything possible to be ready as soon as possible and return to the national team as agreed from the beginning. Also, I love it [Egypt] and love its people… Try harder."

Egyptian legends and AFCON champion,s Ahmed Hassan, Wael Gomaa, and Hany Ramzy have harshly condemned Salah and the EFA for their conduct, questioning the player's loyalty to the Pharaohs.

Salah sends message to Egypt fans

Meanwhile, Salah has promised Egypt fans he will do everything in his power to return to the Africa Cup of Nations after returning to England to kickstart his rehabilitation, Daily Mirror reports.

The striker has faced backlash from his country’s supporters and has also been accused of deserting the Pharaohs when he was needed the most, after he returned to England for treatment.

Egypt advanced to the knockout stages despite drawing all three of their group games 2-2, and they may not see Salah again in the tournament unless they reach the final on February 11.

Klopp apologises to Egypt coach

Sports Brief also previously reported Liverpool manager, Jurgen Klopp apologising to his Egyptian counterpart over his comments on Salah’s injury.

Coach of the Pharaohs, Rui Vitoria was outraged that the German had exposed the depth of the injury before his country's last AFCON group game.

Egypt's football association had initially stated Salah would only miss two games after being forced off hurt during their 2-2 draw against Ghana.
