Bafana Bafana are through to the round of 16 at the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast after their goalless draw against Tunisia.
South Africa needed to avoid defeat against the Carthage Eagles to seal qualification to the next round, irrespective of what happens in the game between Namibia and Mali.
The match between the Brave Warriors and the Eagles also ended in a goalless draw, which means Bafana Bafana finished second in Group E.
After the game against the Carthage Eagles, Hugo Broos shared his thoughts about their performance in the group stage, according to a report by iDiskiTimes.
"I am too happy to qualify for the next round. We had a difficult group with Tunisia, Mali and Namibia, but we did well. So, we began a new competition in the next round," he said.
The former Indomitable Lions of Cameroon coach also disclosed South Africa's target after making it to the next round.
"We aim to qualify for the final; why not? We have a good team, and I'm very confident," he added.
The Belgian manager also shared his thoughts on how the team have progressed since taking charge for over two years.
"After two-year-and-a-half, I think little by little you have to know who I am, as human being and as a coach," he added.
"And I want win every match. When I came here, I knew there was a possibility to have a good team – it took time."
