- The Belgian, then at Chelsea, was sanctioned for his actions
- 11 years on and the two met up again in completely different circumstances
Former Chelsea star Eden Hazard has reunited with the ball boy he infamously kicked in 2013.
Fans with long memories will remember the notorious incident which took place during a League Cup clash involving Chelsea and Swansea.
The Blues travelled to Wales to take on the Swans at the Liberty Stadium with Swansea enjoying a 2-0 lead from the first leg.
It thus made sense that Chelsea was growing increasingly frustrated in the second leg, and it manifested itself when Hazard went off on a 17-year-old Charlie Morgan.
As cited on TalkSport, the ball went out of play and Morgan attempted to eat into the clock by holding on to the ball. This agitated Hazard, who, in a fit of frustration, kicked at the youngster.
The referee subsequently sent Hazard off, and the Belgian was handed a three-game ban for his actions.
Hazard reunites with Morgan
11 years on and the two seem to have put their past trials behind them and are leading completely different lives.
Hazard hung his football boots in 2023 after a series of frustrating injuries, while Charlie Morgan is a successful entrepreneur who is reportedly worth millions, according to SportBible.
The former ball boy has a Vodka brand, which has successfully broken into the UK market.
On Wednesday, January 23, Hazard shared a photo of the two, more than a decade after their infamous incident along with the caption, “A nice thing about retirement is catching up with old friends. You have come a long in way in 11 years my friend.”
When Hazard was criticized for ‘lacking mentality’
In October 2023, Hazard shocked the world by announcing his retirement from football, aged just 32.

FootballThis attracted a fair amount of criticism towards the Belgian, with some accusing him of lacking a proper mentality.
Joe Cole, a former Chelsea man, asserted that the Belgian should have been the ‘best player in the world’, but the lack of will to do everything it takes to become the best hampered him.
As Sports Brief reported, , Hazard’s former teammate John Obi Mikel also once claimed the Belgian was the ‘laziest footballer he has ever seen’.
