Wilfred Ndidi has set a target of reaching the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final for the Super Eagles after they sealed qualification to the knockout stage.
After two victories and a draw, Nigeria booked a round of 16 spot, finishing as runners-up in Group A with seven points, with Equatorial Guinea topping the group that also had Ivory Coast and Guinea-Bissau.
According to Complete Sports, Ndidi, who pulled out of the competition due to injury, has tasked the Super Eagles to get to the final of the competition after their round of 16 opponents was confirmed.
” Just try as much as possible to get to the final. We planned to win games which gets you to the next stage.”
Nigeria will face Cameroon in the round of 16 after the Indomitable Lions secured qualification with a 3-2 victory against Gambia on Tuesday night.
Osimhen to score against Cameroon
Meanwhile, Super Eagles coach, Jose Peseiro, has guaranteed Nigerian fans that Victor Osimhen will score in Nigeria's round of 16 encounter against Cameroon, Soccernet reports.
The Super Eagles have struggled with scoring goals at the ongoing AFCON, managing just three goals in 41 attempts, leading to fans criticising the 25-year-old Napoli forward after too many missed opportunities.
Osimhen has failed to find the back of the net since Nigeria’s 1-1 draw against Equatorial Guinea, but Peseiro is confident the striker will find his goalscoring touch again against Cameroon.
Yobo unconvinced with Super Eagles
Earlier, Sports Brief reported that former Nigeria captain, Joseph Yobo, believes the Super Eagles have been unimpressive at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations despite the team's qualification to the Round of 16.
