  • Daniel Amartey left the internet in stitches after leaving the pitch in his underwear on Monday
  • The Ghana defender gave away his football attire to the fans at full-time against Mozambique
  • Amartey came on in the second half for striker Antoine Semenyo in Ghana's disappointing draw

Ghana defender, Daniel Amartey, sent the internet into a frenzy when images and a video of him stripping down to his underwear to gift his full kit to Ghanaian supporters went viral.

The centre-back came on for the four-time African champions, replacing Antoine Semenyo in the 72nd minute.

The Besiktas defender elicited strong emotions from Ghanaians as he unbuttoned his jersey following the Black Stars' 2-2 draw with Mozambique in the concluding Group B match of the 2023 AFCON on January 22.

Amartey walked up to the spectators in the Alassane Ouattara Stadium stands, taking off his jersey to the fans and standing clad only in his boxers, per UTV Ghana.

The 29-year-old's actions in the photographs aimed to show empathy towards the numerous upset and teary-eyed supporters who were dissatisfied with the team's uncertain standing in Round 16.

Afterwards, he exited the field and draped himself with the Ghanaian flag.

Amartey maintains a deep connection with Ghanaian supporters, and football fans across Africa undoubtedly appreciated the lightheartedness in his wholehearted gesture towards those who continue to admire him.

Ghana languish in third place in Group B with only two points from three games, requiring a substantial miracle to secure advancement to round 16, per the Athletic.

How Ghana can still advance in AFCON

Meanwhile, Sports Brief earlier reported on how the Black Stars could have automatically qualified for the last 16 as Egypt drew with Cape Verde in the other group match.

The good news for Chris Hughton's side is that they still have a shot at advancing to the knockout round as one of the four best third-placed teams in this year's AFCON, per TNT Sports.

The Black Stars will need the help of other teams, though, for them to achieve this difficult task.

Angry reporters clash with Ghana stars

Sports Brief recently reported on angry Ghanaian reporters clashing with the Black Stars after their meltdown against Mozambique.

Reporters approached players and officials following the match, prompting CAF security officials to intervene and defuse the tense situation.
