Egypt has been dealt with a massive blow after it emerged that Mohamed Salah could miss the remainder of the Africa Cup of Nations through injury.
Salah picked up a muscle injury while in action for The Pharaohs against Ghana last Thursday.
According to Sky Sports, the Liverpool star was initially ruled out for just two games for Egypt.
However, he is now due to return to Liverpool this week to embark on an 'intensive rehabilitation programme', with the decision reached after an agreement between the Egyptian FA and the Premier League giants.
It has since emerged that Salah could spend several weeks on the sidelines after the extent of his injury was established.
Salah's agent speaks on forward's injury
This is according to the forward's agent, Ramy Abbas, who has disclosed that his client's injury is worse than earlier thought.
Abbas took to X to disclose that Salah could be out for between three to four weeks, meaning he is unlikely to return to AFCON action.
"Mohammed’s injury is more serious than first thought and he will be out for 21-28 days, and not 2 games," he posted.
"His best chance at participating in the current AFCON is by undergoing intensive rehabilitation in the UK and rejoining the team as soon as he is fit," he added.
Salah's injury blow comes at a time when Egypt is in dire need of his services, with the North African side already through to the knockouts.

The Egypt captain was withdrawn in the first half of their game against Ghana on January 18, with scans revealing he will miss the next two games.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has revealed that should the Pharaohs make it to the semifinals, Salah will be allowed to return to Ivory Coast.
