Chelsea legend Didier Drogba could not believe his eyes as he watched Cote d'Ivoire get battered by Equatorial Guinea in their Group A game at the Africa Cup of Nations.

The former Cote d'Ivoire captain was in the stands as the host nation suffered one of their worst-ever defeats at the tournament, leaving their slim chance of progressing bleak.

A second-half masterclass from the Nzalang Nacional saw them add three goals to the first-half strike from Emiliano Nsue to leave the Alassane Outarra Stadium 4-0 winners.

In a video that has since gone viral on social media, Drogba was spotted in demoralised mood as Cote d'Ivoire watched their tournament slip out of their hands.

Nsue opened the scoring for Equatorial Guinea moments before half-time before VAR ruled out an equalizer from Ibrahim Sagnare.

Pablo Garnet doubled the lead with a sensational freekick before Nsue added his second of the game.

Janick Buyla put the icing on the cake with a fine finish late in the game. Equatorial Guinea had chances to extend their lead but wasted the opportunities.

Equatorial finished top of Group A with Nigeria placing second, per Sky Sports.

Cote d'Ivoire suffer heavy defeat to Equatorial Guinea

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Cote d'Ivoire could exit the Africa Cup of Nations as the hosts suffered a 4-0 thrashing by Equatorial Guinea in their final Group A game in Abidjan on Monday.

Emilio Nsue scored a double to follow up his hat-trick against Guinea-Bissau as Equatorial Guinea finished top of the group ahead of Nigeria on goal difference.

Nigeria saw off Guinea-Bissau 1-0 in the group's other game.

Drogba tips Nigeria for AFCON

Sports Brief also reported that Ivory Coast and Chelsea legend, Didier Drogba has tipped Nigeria to go far at the Nations Cup.

Nigeria's national team showed their title credentials after defeating AFCON hosts, Ivory Coast 1-0 in front of their fans, with the Blues icon also present at the stadium.

According to Soccernet, the Super Eagles' performance against his home country convinced Drogba that Jose Peseiro’s team has the quality to go far in the competition.
