  • Girona continued their impressive run with a 5-1 win over Sevilla
  • Ukrainian striker Artem Dovbyk scored a hat-trick in six minutes
  • It is one of the fastest treble goals scored in the Spanish La Liga

Girona continued to defy rival fans who claimed their early season form was a fluke and they would soon find their levels in the middle of the Spanish La Liga table.

They returned to the top of the table, a point ahead of Real Madrid, who have a game at hand, after emphatically beating European giants Sevilla 5-1, courtesy of Artem Dovbyk’s six-minute hat-trick.

Sports Brief looks at the fastest hat-tricks in La Liga after the Ukrainians' treble at the weekend.

Fastest La Liga hattricks

1. Bebeto

The Brazilian legend scored a hat-trick for Deportivo La Coruna against Albacete in four minutes and 43 seconds in 1995. Per Goal, the timing is contentious as it was not clocked, leaving other trebles after it the recognised record.

2. Kevin Gameiro

The French striker scored the fastest hat-trick in La Liga when he came over the bench to score three for Atletico Madrid against Sporting Gijon in February 2017. The score was levelled at 1-1, and the former Strasbourg forward made it 4-1 in four minutes and 45 seconds.

3. David Villa

Per an official statement by Valencia, David Villa’s hat-trick was clocked at four minutes and 46 seconds. Spanish legend Villa scored the goals against Athletic Bilbao on April 23, 2006. His feat amazed him, claiming he had never scored so much in a short time.

4. Luis Suarez

Not the Uruguayan and Barcelona Luis Suarez, but Almeria forward. Per ESPN, the Colombian forward scored three goals against his former side Granada on October 2, 2023, to secure a point for his team in a 3-3 draw in five minutes and 25 seconds.

5. Karim Benzema

Per Diario AS, the former Real Madrid forward needed only six minutes and 30 seconds to score three goals during Real Madrid’s 6-0 thrashing of Real Valladolid, the club owned by former Madrid and Brazil striker, Ronaldo Nazario.

6. Artem Dovbyk

The Ukrainian forward comes in at sixth place, only two seconds slower than Benzema. Sevilla took an early lead against Girona, but they went into halftime 3-1 down after Dovbyk scored three goals in six minutes and 32 seconds.

Girona could pull a ‘Leicester’

Sports Brief reported on fans thinking Girona could pull a 'Leicester City' and go all the way to win the Spanish La Liga title ahead of Real Madrid and Barcelona.

The Red and White maintain their impressive run, and fans think they could win it, just like Leicester City’s fairytale run to win the Premier League title in the 2015/16 season under Claudio Ranieri.
