  • The final group matches of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations continue in Ivory Coast
  • The Super Eagles of Nigeria are set to face the struggling Djurtus of Guinea Bissau
  • Coach, Jose Peseiro has disclosed his immediate target ahead of the crunch clash

The Super Eagles of Nigeria look to wrap up their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) group-stage campaign in style when they face off against basement side, Guinea Bissau.

A convincing victory against the Djurtus, who pose a potential challenge, could propel the Super Eagles to the top of their group following a pivotal win over Ivory Coast.

However, securing a win against Baciro Cande's team poses a significant challenge for Nigeria, especially considering the surprising defeat the West African nation suffered against Guinea Bissau in Abuja in March last year.

In the build-up to what could be a tricky encounter, Nigeria's coach, Jose Peseiro has outlined his objectives for the clash.

Peseiro discloses target for Guinea Bissau

The 63-year-old manager, who saw his team break their winless streak with a crucial victory against the hosts, Ivory Coast, outlined the team's determination to secure another win against Guinea Bissau during his pre-match press conference.

"We want to approach our last group match with utmost seriousness. We have achieved our target against Ivory Coast. Our next objective is to defeat Guinea-Bissau," stated Peseiro via Soccernet.
"Our focus is now on Guinea-Bissau, and we want to claim the top position in the group. We are determined to fight for that spot, and to achieve it, we must improve our performance in the next match."

The Portuguese coach also emphasised the need for caution against their upcoming opponents:

"Bissau are a good team with quality players. We cannot underestimate them as they play good football and have the capability to defeat any team. However, we are aware of our responsibility, and that must be evident on the field with an improved performance."

The Super Eagles will face the Djurtus with the objective of securing all three points, as a victory could lead to favorable draws in the round of 16 for Nigeria.

Peseiro's half-time talk for Nigeria explained

Sports Brief also previously reported on Super Eagles defender, Kenneth Omeruo discussing the half-time talk by Peseiro during the clash against Ivory Coast.

The 30-year-old explained that the national team coach injected confidence into the Nigerian team and emphasised the significance of maintaining their shape.

The Kasimpasa defender also highlighted the critical adjustments addressed by Peseiro during that rousing talk, which proved instrumental in securing the victory.
