The game between Morocco and the Democratic Republic of Congo ended with the two teams going at each other following a heated exchange of words between Walid Regragui and Cancel Mbemba.

Mbemba, who is captain of DRC, left the pitch following a knock in the dying moments of the match but could not return immediately as the referee continued the game.

The Olympique Marseille centre-back was left fuming before the referee's final whistle as the Leopards held on to draw with the Atlas Lions.

Following the end of the game, the defender and Regragui were involved in a heated argument and had to be separated by officials.

In a video shared on social media, the rest of the players from both sides got involved, leaving a chaotic scene at the end of the game.

Morocco, tipped by many to win the Africa Cup of Nations, got off to a bright start after Paris Saint Germain defender Achraf Hakimi connected to a Hakim Ziyech corner just six minutes into the game.

Cedric Bakambu missed a penalty before half-time, but Katompa Mvumpa scored late in the match to secure a point for DR Congo.

The World Cup semi-finalist will next face Zambia while the Democratic Republic of Congo engages Tanzania, per Sky Sports.

Morocco held by DR Congo

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Morocco will have to wait to clinch a place in the last 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations after being held to a 1-1 draw by the Democratic Republic of Congo on Sunday, with Silas Katompa Mvumpa earning the Leopards a deserved draw.

Achraf Hakimi had given heavily-fancied Morocco an early lead in San-Pedro, in the south-western corner of Ivory Coast, and Cedric Bakambu missed a penalty for the Congolese before the interval.

But substitute Silas, of German Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart, swept home the equaliser on 76 minutes to ensure a share of the spoils.
