- Ivan Toney inspired Brentford to victory against Nottingham on his return to football
- The Englishman marked his comeback from an eight-month ban with a goal
- Interestingly, he was given an Undertaker-esque introduction at Brentford's stadium
Brentford adopted a WWE-inspired approach for the introduction of striker Ivan Toney ahead of their Premier League encounter against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, January 20.
Toney, returning to competitive football after an eight-month suspension, faced initial charges from the FA for 232 alleged gambling offences, which later escalated to a total of 262 alleged breaches in December 2022.
Regardless of the legal challenges, the 27-year-old had an impressive track record, scoring 20 league goals last season and making his England debut in March 2023, making him a hot commodity on the transfer market.
Despite speculation linking him with Arsenal, Toney affirmed his commitment to Brentford in an interview with Sky Sports.
Toney crowns return with stunning goal
In his comeback match against Nottingham, the England international demonstrated his gratitude for the club's support during his suspension by netting the equalizing goal with a free-kick after Danilo had given the visitors the lead.
According to the Premier League, both of his last two goals in the English top flight were from set-pieces, scored 266 days apart against the same opposition.
Brentford introduces Toney like The Undertaker
Notably, it was Toney's pre-match introduction that gained attention on social media. The West London club provided him with a grand entrance reminiscent of WWE legend Mark William Calaway, known as The Undertaker.
Accompanied by the WWE-composed track "The Graveyard Symphony," featuring funeral bell tolls and a remix of Frédéric Chopin's "Funeral March," the striker's return was celebrated in spectacular fashion.

Toney, who faced a 232-breach ban for betting rule violations in May, demonstrated his sharpness by scoring a clever free-kick within 19 minutes.
