  • Mohamed Salah could be out of the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast
  • The Liverpool star was injured in Egypt's 2-2 draw against Ghana on Thursday evening
  • Egyptian Football Association have released the latest update on the superstar's injury

Egyptian Football Association have confirmed the number of games Mohamed Salah will miss at the ongoing 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

Salah was withdrawn from Egypt's 2-2 draw against Ghana after holding his hamstring in the 44th minute.

The seven-time African champions felt the former Chelsea winger's absence in the second half against the Black Stars.

Popular Journalist Fabrizio Romano confirmed the official statement of the Egyptian FA that the Liverpool star will miss the Pharaohs' next two games in the competition.

"The injury of Mo Salah with a strain in the hamstring muscle will cause him to miss two matches in the Africa Cup of Nations against Cape Verde and in the Round of 16 in the case of qualification," the Egyptian FA stated.

Egypt need a win against Cape Verde to book a place in the next round. Failure to win could bring an end to Salah's tournament and miss a chance to win the Africa Cup of Nations once again.

Salah's injury update by the Egyptian FA would appear to be good news for Jurgen Klopp, with the Round of 16 AFCON fixtures not taking place until January 27.

The Egyptian forward has scored 14 goals in 20 Premier League matches for the Merseyside Reds this season, according to a report by Sport Bible.

AFCON: Salah in heated argument with referee

Sports Brief also reported that Liverpool star Mohamed Salah was spotted in a heated argument with match referee Pierre Atcho during their AFCON clash with Ghana.

The former AS Roma winger was not happy with the centre referee's decision of not awarding his team a penalty in the 18th minute after Eintracht Frankfurt star Omar Marmoush was fouled in the box.

The referee didn't buy the Egyptian forward antics and signalled a free kick in favour of Ghana.
