Cristiano Ronaldo holds the view that the Saudi Pro League surpasses France's Ligue 1 in quality.

Ronaldo inked a deal with Al Nassr, and soon after, notable players such as Sadio Mane, Karim Benzema, N'Golo Kante, Fabinho, Allan Saint-Maximin, Edouard Mendy, and Kalidou Koulibaly also joined him in Saudi Arabia in January of the previous year.

The move to the Middle East by the former icon of Real Madrid and Manchester United caught many spectators off guard.

However, the Portugal captain is convinced that it was a positive move, benefiting both himself and the advancement of Saudi soccer.

Ronaldo attended the Globe Soccer Awards in Dubai on Friday - along with the likes of Manchester City forward Erling Haaland.

Prior to the presentation of the main awards, Ronaldo participated in an on-stage Q&A session.

Ronaldo on why Saudi league is better than Ligue 1

The legendary number 7 was questioned about the public's response to his transfer to Al Nassr and how he managed to transform any negative feedback into motivation.

And while praising the Saudi Pro League, Ronaldo aimed a dig at France's top flight, saying the Saudi Arabia's fledging league is a better competition.

"You want my opinion? I don't think the Saudi League is worse than French Ligue 1," said the Al Nassr superstar via Sportbible.
"In Saudi Arabia, I find it’s more competitive, they can say what they want, it's my opinion, I play here and I know what I’m saying," he added.
"I think now we are better than Ligue 1."

Ronaldo's assertion that the Saudi Pro League is 'more competitive' may be attributed to PSG's remarkable nine league titles secured since the 2012/13 season. In this period, only AS Monaco and Lille have succeeded in interrupting PSG's dominance.

Presently, the French giants hold the leading position in the table, boasting an eight-point advantage over second-placed Nice.

Turning to the Saudi Pro League, Al Hilal enjoys a seven-point lead over Ronaldo's Al Nassr.

Mane backs Ronaldo

Al-Nassr star Sadio Mane has disclosed that he is happy playing in the Saudi Pro League after some players questioned the quality of the competition in the Asian country, Sports Brief reported earlier.

Mane's ex-teammate, Jordan Henderson described his short spell in Saudi Arabia as difficult while Aymeric Laporte claims players are dissatisfied in the country.

However, the Senegalese forward, who scored as the Teranga Lions progressed to the last 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations, has a different view of the league.
