Jurgen Klopp’s biggest nightmare is threatening to come true.

The Liverpool boss on Friday, January 19, provided a grim update on Mohamed Salah, who sustained a worrying injury while on AFCON duty.

Salah hobbled off injured towards the end of the first half in the Group B thriller between Egypt and Ghana, with the Black Stars finding the opener moments later.

In what is suspected to be a hamstring injury, Salah’s video of him walking off injured will not be a welcome sight for Liverpool fans and their manager.

The Reds face Bournemouth in a Premier League clash on Sunday, and ahead of the game, Klopp was on media duties where he was asked to address the elephant in the room – Salah’s injury.

Klopp revealed he had spoken to Salah on Thursday evening but could not disclose the extent of the injury.

"We don't know anything," Klopp said, per Fabrizio Romano.
"I spoke with him last night, and he will have further assessment. Then we will know more. He felt it, and we all know how rarely Mo goes off, so it's definitely something. We will see."

Blow for Klopp, blow for Egypt

Klopp will not be the only one sweating over Salah’s fitness.

Egypt as a whole are also concerned for their winger, especially with a crucial game against Cape Verde coming up on Monday, January 22.

The Pharaohs are still winless in their opening two group games, although they did impressively come from behind twice to force a 2-2 draw against Ghana on Thursday, all in the absence of Salah.

For Liverpool, Salah has once again been their main man this season, scoring 18 goals in 27 appearances across all competitions, per Transfermarkt.

His strikes have helped Liverpool fight for all available silverware this season, including the Premier League title.

Salah in heated argument with the referee

Still on Egypt, Salah went viral on Thursday after engaging the referee in a shouting match during the game against Ghana.

As Sports Brief reported, Salah was incensed that his side was not given a penalty and made his feelings known towards Pierre Atcho.

Atcho took the unusual route and retorted back to Salah and the two briefly exchanged words before the ref walked away.
