But while some headlines are focused on the fact that Atletico exacted revenge over their city rivals, the most significant talking point was Simeone's interactions with the Brazilian.

The duo's first interaction came after Madrid scored in the game, and Vinicius celebrated in front of the Atleti fans. Simeone gestured to the referee about what the Real player was doing but received a yellow card for his complaints.

After the full-time whistle, the winger and the manager had to be separated after a spat on the field.

Video of the incident showed Simeone and Vinicius hurling insults at each other, which officials and members of the respective teams got between them.

Speaking after the game, Simeone answered questions about the incident, saying there was nothing to talk about there, Get Football News Spain reported.

“With Vinicius? There’s nothing to comment on. These are things that happen on the pitch,” he said.

Vinicius is no stranger to controversial moments with Atleti, having been racially abused by their fans previously and winding up their players during games.

Vinicius Jr riles up Barcelona’s bench

Sports Brief reported earlier how Vinicius Jr defended his on-pitch behaviour after Real Madrid beat Barcelona in the Spanish Cup.

The Real Madrid winger scored a hat-trick in the game as Los Blancos won 4-1 but made headlines for his gesture towards the opposition.

The Brazilian was spotted taunting Barcelona’s bench by flaunting the scoreline with his hands during the game, but his actions were criticised by some online.
