  • Mohammed Salisu is unhappy with the goals Ghana conceded
  • The Black Stars played out a 2-2 draw against Egypt on Thursday
  • Ghana risks early AFCON elimination after failing to win a game

Ghana are conceding cheap goals at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations that could end up hurting the four-time African champions as they played a 2-2 draw against the Pharaohs of Egypt.

The Black Stars' defence made an error in additional time that led to Cape Verde’s winner in their Group B opener and also conceded another cheap equaliser in the draw against Egypt.

Speaking to Sports Brief, Ghana defender Mohammed Salisu signalled that the whole team is to blame for conceding both errors and not an individual, as the Black Stars risk an early elimination from the AFCON.

“We win as a team, and we lose as a team; there is no individual mistake. When we make a mistake, we make the mistake as a team. When you mention a player, you kill the player for the next game.”

Despite leading twice through Mohammed Kudus’ brace, Ghana failed to hold on for the win and now sit at the bottom of Group B with one point from their opening two games.

Hughton frustrated with Egypt draw

Meanwhile, Black Stars' head coach Chris Hughton has expressed his frustrations following their draw with Egypt in the second-round group game of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, CAF Online reports.

Ghana led twice through Kudus but bottled their chance to earn their first win at AFCON after they allowed the Pharaohs to pick up a point from the game.

The Black Stars have now experienced a winless streak spanning six games across three AFCON competitions, marking the longest period in the competition's history without a victory.

Salisu looking to Mozambique game

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Ghana defender Salisu had said that the Black Stars will not be under pressure to win against Mozambique, which will decide their fate at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Ghana will be looking to avoid elimination from the AFCON group stages for the second consecutive year and must secure a win against Mozambique to turn that hope into reality.

The Black Stars have garnered just one point from their first two games, losing 2-1 against Cape Verde before playing an entertaining 2-2 draw against the Pharaohs of Egypt on Thursday.
