  • Egypt and Ghana played out an entertaining 2-2 draw in Group B
  • The Black Stars will rue their poor defensive performances
  • A Ghanaian grandma has gone viral for her reaction to the game

For the neutrals, Ghana and Egypt played out an entertaining 2-2 draw at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny in their second Group B game, but it was frustrating for citizens of the two countries.

Mohammed Kudus was the star of the night for the Black Stars with two goals, twice putting the country ahead, but they were held back by poor defensive displays, allowing their opponents back in.

Liverpool star Mohamed Salah limped off with an apparent hamstring injury in the first half, which added extra worries for head coach Rui Vitoria.

Ghanaian grandma vents frustration

The Black Stars have a point from two games after losing their opening game to Cape Verde, making their final group game against Mozambique a must-win.

Their poor defensive performances held the team back in both games, which should worry head coach Chris Houghton ahead of their final match.

As seen in a viral TikTok video, an aged Ghanaian woman was venting her frustration at the defensive display. She questioned the tactics of building from the back against launching it into the box for the striker as it was done in the last.

She mentioned Addo Odamtey, a late Ghanaian defender who played for the country between 1960 and 1968 and was an expert at delivering long balls into the 18-yard box, while these new-generation defenders focus on passing.

Hughton had previously managed Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion, a club reputable for their fearless attacking football, even against the big teams in the league.

The English manager of Ghanaian descent quickly pointed out his team's mistakes after admitting to CAF Online that winger Osman Bukari was subbed off despite coming on in the second half due to his mistakes.
