  • Mohammed Salisu feels Ghana is not under pressure at AFCON
  • The Black Stars take on Mozambique in their final Group B game
  • Ghana are bottom of Group B with only one point from two games

Ghana need to beat Mozambique in their final Group B game if they are to have any hope of staying in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Black Stars have garnered just one point from their first two games, losing 2-1 against Cape Verde before playing an entertaining 2-2 draw against the Pharaohs of Egypt on January 18.

Ghana defender, Mohammed Salisu, speaking after the game against Egypt, believes the Black Stars will not be under pressure to win against Mozambique on Monday, January 22.

"No pressure. We need to give everything. I think we are going to get the win when we give everything. We need to improve," he told Sports Brief exclusively after the draw against the Pharaohs.

The Black Stars will hope to avoid getting eliminated from the AFCON in the group stage for the second consecutive year after they also failed to reach the knockouts in the 2021 edition.

Ghana fails to take advantage

Meanwhile, Mohammed Kudus’ brace was not enough to hand Ghana their first win of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations after they were held to a 2-2 draw by Egypt, the BBC reports.

The Pharaohs fought back twice to cancel out the 23-year-old West Ham winger’s goals, with Omar Marmoush and Mostafa Mohamed seeing the game end in an entertaining draw.

Chris Hughton's Black Stars lost their first game against Cape Verde, and the four-time continental champions face failing to advance to the AFCON finals for the second time in three years.

Ghana set unwanted AFCON record

Sports Brief also reported Ghana could only manage a 2-2 draw against Egypt on January 18 and risk an early exit from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Ghana has now gone six games without a win in this year's edition, the longest streak the four-time African champions have had in the competition’s history.

The Black Stars will face Mozambique in their final group stage game, and Chris Hughton's team must win or they would be eliminated from the AFCON.
