Kisii-based club Shabana FC have had a remarkable week in the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League.
Tore Bobe secured an impressive 5-2 victory against Nzoia Sugar at the Sudi Stadium on Sunday, January 14, 2024.
The match started with Nzoia Sugar taking an early lead in the 20th minute through Emmanuel Osoro.
However, Shabana quickly responded as Justine Omwando levelled the score in the 22nd minute. Omwando later gave Shabana the lead with his second goal just before half-time.
Despite Nzoia managing to equalize in the 59th minute with Salim Murunga's penalty, Omwando secured his hat-trick and Shabana's victory with another spot-kick in the 71st minute.
Debutant Mathew Tegisi, playing his first game in Tore Bobe colours after joining from the NSL side outfit Gusii FC, sealed the win with a brace in the game's final phases, as Nation Sports reported.
The outstanding performance earned new head coach Sammy Pamzo Omollo votes for match week 19 Fans’ Coach of the Week, with hat-trick hero Justine Omwando receiving the Fans’ Player of the Week award. The club has also been voted Fans' Club of the Week.
This victory propelled Shabana to the 16th spot with 17 points, tied with Sofapaka but holding a superior goal difference. Their next challenge is a clash against Ulinzi Stars on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay County.
Coach Pamzo focuses on securing maximum points in the upcoming matches and strengthening the team during the current transfer window. He is determined that Shabana does not deserve to languish in the relegation zone, emphasizing the team's potential.
