The Super Eagles of Nigeria continue their charge for a fourth Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) crown with a crucial fixture against Ivory Coast.
While both teams might have had contrasting starts to their Nations Cup campaign, the upcoming clash against the host nation is widely regarded as one of the standout fixtures of the tournament.
Many potential opponents will be closely observing this encounter, as it holds the potential to reveal the strengths of both teams.
However, leading up to the critical showdown at the Stade Alassane Ouattara, a Nigerian defender has disclosed his struggle with food poisoning.
Super Eagles defender gets food poisoning
Super Eagles and Fenerbahce star, Bright Osayi-Samuel, in an interview with media outlet Brila.net, touched on his recent battle with food poisoning.
“I have got food poisoning, but I should feel okay,” he stated.
The defender further acknowledged the fact that he currently feels weak but cleared talks of his unavailability for the clash against the Ivorians.
The 26-year-old featured for seven minutes for Jose Peseiro’s side in the underwhelming display against Equatorial Guinea after coming on as a substitute for the fatigued Ola Aina.
Nigeria faces the imperative task of securing a victory against Jean-Louis Gasset's team to avoid challenging opponents in the AFCON round of 16.
While it remains uncertain whether Osayi-Samuel will get the nudge ahead of Nottingham Forest’s Aina, it has to be stated that the defender’s versatility and his incredible footwork could be a valuable asset to have in the Super Eagles' arsenal when they come up against their Ivorian counterparts.
