FootballPercy Tau: Mosimane Compares Bafana Star’s Penalty Miss Against Mali to Saka’s Miss in Euro 2020
- Pitso Mosimane has shared his thoughts on Percy Tau's penalty miss in South Africa's loss to Mali
- Bafana Bafana lost 2-0 to the Eagles in their opening 2023 Africa Cup of Nations Group E match
- The former Al Wahda manager also compared Tau's penalty miss to Bukayo Saka's miss in Euro 2020
Former Mamelodi Sundowns manager Pitso Mosimane has reacted to Percy Tau's penalty miss in Bafana Bafana's 2023 Africa Cup of Nations opener against Mali.
Bafana Bafana lost 2-0 to the Eagles on Tuesday evening with goals from Hamari Traore and Lassine Sinayoko.
The major highlight of the game was Tau's penalty miss in the 18th minute when the score was goalless.
After the game, Pitso Mosimane, one of SuperSport TV's pundits for the match, compared Tau's penalty miss to the one Bukayo Saka missed when England faced Italy in the Euros 2020 final.
"It is a big moment because that could have given South Africa a different shape of the game and confidence of being a goal up," he said.
"It's an important [opportunity], he missed a big penalty, it is not just a 'penalty'.
"It's not a penalty you missed when you're 2-0 up and then you missed to make 3-0. It's like the penalty Bukayo Saka [Arsenal player] at the Euros. You'll get the backlash, and you need to be professional."
South Africa's loss against Eric Chelle's men means they are last in Group E standings and will face Namibia in their next game, according to Soccerway.
