Danny Jordaan is no stranger to criticism, but pressure has mounted on the South African Football Association's head.

With Bafana Bafana suffering defeat in their opening game of the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, Jordaan’s leadership of the sport in the country has further come into question.

The national side were beaten 2-0 by Mali in their opening game of the tournament and will now look to turn things around against Namibia and Tunisia.

Following Bafana’s loss, Jordaan and Sports Minister Zizi Kodwa were spotted in the team’s dressing room speaking to the players, a move which hasn’t gone down well with many.

While some are saying that politics and football don’t mix, a politician is now calling for a change in the leadership of South African football.

Julius Malema criticises Jordaan

EFF leader Julius Malema has now demanded that Jordaan be removed from office, claiming that the President was disrupting and collapsing local football.

Jordaan has often been accused of being the reason why South African football has failed to hit the heights of the past but continues to be voted in as President of SAFA.

Samuel Eto’o shares thoughts on Bafana

It’s not just South Africans who have questioned the state of the sport in the country; Cameroon legend Samuel Eto’o is also confused about why Bafana aren’t a powerhouse anymore.

As noted by Goal, the President of the Cameroonian Football Federation said that officials needed to sit down and plan on how to take Bafana to the next level.

"I am baffled as to why Bafana Bafana have constantly underperformed at the Africa Cup of Nations. The South African league (PSL) is well organised and one of the best in Africa, so I do not understand why the national team is not that good," Eto'o said.

Broos gives reasons for Bafana's loss

Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos has praised his side despite losing to Mali in their Africa Cup of Nations opener last night.

The South African side were beaten 2-0 by Mali in the fixture, conceding two goals in the second half, Sports Brief reported.

After the game, Broos detailed the reasons why his side failed to pick up the win despite their first-half performance.
