Jose Mourinho has broken his silence after he was sacked by AS Roma on January 17. The Italian club made the decision to let the veteran Portuguese go after a series of poor results this season.
Roma's loss to AC Milan over the weekend was their seventh of the season as they sunk to ninth place on the log. Mourinho had struggled to churn out consistent results after leading them to back-to-back European finals.
"We would like to thank José on behalf of all of us at AS Roma for his passion and efforts since his arrival at the club. We will always have great memories of his tenure at Roma, but we believe that an immediate change is in the club's best interests," the owners said in a club statement.
Mourinho's message to Roma fans
Mourinho has now responded with a powerful and concise message of his own on his official Instagram account.
The former Real Madrid manager shared photos of his favourite moments in the Italian capital with the caption:
"Sweat, blood, tears, joy, sadness, love, brothers, history, heart, eternity."
Appointed two and half years ago, Mourinho's greatest achievement was guiding Roma to their first European final in over ten years, which he won by beating Feyenoord in the Conference League final despite operating on a shoestring budget.
Staunch supporters say he could have won the Europa League as well last season were it not for a series of poor decisions from referee Anthony Taylor.
He accompanied the pictures of his moments with the Giallorossi with Andre Bocelli's song 'Now We Are Free.' A line from the song reads
"It was inside you
Just a dream
But soon, the dream will come true."
