FootballKhvicha Kvaratskhelia Napoli Star Picks His Idol as He Subtly Settles GOAT Debate
- Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was the latest football star to weigh in on his idol growing up
- The winger interestingly picked former Real Madrid midfielder Guti as one of his idols
- He also once picked who is the better player between Cristiano and Messi
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia made an interesting pick when asked who was his favourite player growing up.
The 22-year-old is one of the fast-rising stars in world football and is a vital part of Walter Mazarri’s side.
He is one of the few football stars who is unafraid of the classic style of play involving trying to beat a man in a 1v1 situation.
For this reason, it came as no surprise when the Georgia international name dropped Cristiano Ronaldo when asked about his idol growing up.
In a video shared by @TheNassrZone on X, formerly Twitter, Kvaratskhelia was asked who was his idol growing up.
“I have two, Guti and Cristiano Ronaldo,” he replied.
Just how good was Guti?
While there is no question on why Kvaratskhelia idolizes Cristiano Ronaldo, younger fans of the beautiful game might be curious about Guti.
Known officially as José María Gutiérrez Hernández, Guti played for Real Madrid from 1995 to 2010 and established himself as one of the greats at the club.
One of his most delightful attributes was his uncanny ability to pick a pass, which no one in the stadium saw.
In many ways, he resembled the modern-day Kevin de Bruyne with his passing.
Kvaratskhelia on Ronaldo vs Messi debate
Despite idolizing Ronaldo, Kvaratskhelia once admitted that Lionel Messi was on another level.
According to One Football, the winger doubled down on his comments about idolizing Cristiano but conceded that “Messi is top” at the same time.
Messi and Ronaldo are considered two of the greatest ever to grace the game, and share 13 Ballon d’Ors between them.
Kylian Mbappe admits he misses Lionel Messi at PSG after he left to join Inter Miami
FootballThe two are, however, past their prime, as they now ply their trade in fairly competitive leagues as Messi joined Inter Miami in the MLS, while Ronaldo plays in Saudi Arabia for Al Nassr.
On February 1, the two could meet again in a potential ‘last dance’ in a friendly.
Fans question Messi’s The Best win
In related news, sections of fans contested Lionel Messi’s win in the 2023 FIFA the Best Awards.
The Argentine marginally beat Erling Haaland to win the award for the third time, and as Sports Brief reported, this sparked a huge debate on social media.
Football enthusiasts were adamant the “game was rigged” as they felt Haaland was more deserving of the award after his treble-winning 2022/23 campaign.
