  • Bebe has made his AFCON debut for Cape Verde
  • The Man United flop starred in the victory over Ghana
  • The Blue Sharks will next face Mozambique on Friday

Former Manchester United forward, Thiago Manuel Dias Correira, popularly known as Bebe, led the Cape Verdean team in celebrations after their famous victory over Ghana.

The Rayo Vallecano forward starred as the Blue Sharks left it late to beat the four-time African champions at the Houphouet Boigny Stadium in Abidjan.

Bebe was a menace on the left flank, as defender Dennis Odoi struggled to match up with his physical game.

In a video shared on social media, Bebe is seen leading his teammates in drumming and singing moments after the win.

Having lost to Ghana eleven years ago at AFCON 2013, veteran forward Ryan Mendes insists it was a perfect revenge for the team.

"The other time there were big more players like Asamoah Gyan, you know. It was difficult for us in South Africa but tonight like I told you we took our revenge and we need to continue like this because the target is to reach the next stage," he said after the match, as quoted by Ghana Soccernet.

Cape Verde will next face Mozambique while Ghana engages Egypt in the Group B headliner.

Cape Verde beat Ghana in group opener

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Garry Rodrigues scored in additional time as Cape Verde surprised Ghana with an opening-day victory over the four-time African champions in their Group B opener.

The Blue Sharks got off to a bright start after Jamiro Monteiro gave them an early lead, but the Black Stars levelled after the break through Fenerbache defender, Alexander Djiku.

The result now sees Cape Verde on top of the group after Egypt shared the spoils with Mozambique in the group's other game.

Odoi's family watch AFCON opener

Sports Brief also reported that Ghana defender Denis Odoi's family travelled from Belgium to watch the defender play for the Black Stars at the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

The Belgian-born right-back started and lasted the entire duration as Ghana lost to the Cape Verde on Sunday.

The four-time African champions will next face North African giants Egypt in Abidjan in hopes of reviving their AFCON hopes.
