In a statement by Roma, the Italian side announced that Mourinho will be departing the club alongside his technical staff.

Roma's decision to sack the former Premier League boss came at a time when the Rome-based club have struggled to post positive results.

The Yellow-Reds are currently sitting ninth in the Serie A standings with 29 points after 20 games, with their most recent outing ending in a 3-1 defeat against AC Milan at San Siro.

Chelsea fans beg Mourinho to return

Mourinho's Roma exit has now prompted calls from a section of Chelsea fans for the Portuguese to return to the club for the third time.

The Blues have endured their fair share of struggles in the last two years, with the 2021 Champions League winners unable to compete in the Premier League.

Chelsea, who are under the tutelage of Mauricio Pochettino, currently sit ninth in the Premier League table and face a mountainous task in their hope of sealing European football at the end of the season.

Some Blues fans contend Mourinho could be the answer to their struggles, with @CFCAllyRhodes posting:

"I could never disagree with the appointment of Mourinho. For a 3rd time, yes please. We win the league and he cements himself as the greatest ever manager in our history."

@aday__7 argued:

"Him with Boehly money will do unthinkable at Chelsea."

@_bamidel added:

"He's the special one, I'll take him anytime."

@starboijnr reckoned:

"Mourinho will qualify for UCL with this Chelsea team."

@BirdeyeUTD concluded:

"Mourinho to Chelsea is very possible."

Meanwhile, Mourinho helped Roma win the inaugural Europa League Conference title in 2022, per Euro Sport.

AC Milan fans boo Mourinho

In his last game for AS Roma, Sports Brief reported that Mourinho was booed by AC Milan fans at the San Siro.

Mourinho was absent on the touchline as he served a suspension, but the fans jeered when his image was shown on the big screen.
