Jose Mourinho’s time in charge of AS Roma has come to a sudden end.
The Special One was appointed manager of the Serie A side in 2021, with his contract set to expire at the end of the current season.
Roma have now opted to end it with immediate effect, the club confirmed via its official website.
“We would like to thank José on behalf of all of us at AS Roma for his passion and efforts since his arrival at the club,” the statement read.
“We will always have great memories of his tenure at Roma, but we believe that an immediate change is in the best interests of the club,” the statement continued.
The club also confirmed that Mourinho’s assistants would be leaving the Italian club.
Mourinho’s time at AS Roma
The Special One was in charge of the Serie A side for 138 games, and while he initially found success with them, he struggled during the last season.
Mourinho did lead the side to the maiden Europa Conference League title in 2022 and made it to the final of the 2023 Europa League final, where they were beaten by Sevilla.
Transfermarkt noted that Roma only won 13 of the 28 games they have played in all competitions this season. They are ninth on the Serie A table, 22 points off the leaders Inter Milan.
