Manchester United goalkeeper, Andre Onana has finally touched down in Cote d'Ivoire for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The 27-year-old, however, missed the opening Group C game between the Indomitable Lions and the Syli National of Guinea.

In his absence, deputy goalkeeper Fabrice Ondoa started for the five-time African champions, who were held by ten-men Guinea in Yamoussoukro.

Onana's availability became a matter of controversy after extending his stay in England to feature in the Premier League game between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspurs.

In a video shared on social media, the shot-stopper was spotted in the company of African football legend El-Hadji Diouf, who seems to be advising the player over his decisions.

The former Ajax goalkeeper is expected to start for Cameroon in the group headliner against Senegal on Friday.

Meanwhile, the Indomitable Lions missed star forward Vincent Aboubakar as they spurned several chances in the 1-1 draw on Monday night.

Mohamed Bayo opened the scoring for Guinea early in the game before Frank Magri levelled for Cameroon in the second half, as reported by the BBC.

Rigobert Song explains Onana's absence

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Cameroon coach, Rogobert Song disclosed that he permitted Andre Onana to extend his stay in England amid the start of the Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

The Manchester United goalkeeper stayed behind to feature for the Red Devils in their Premier League game against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

The Cameroon number one boarded a chartered flight in hopes of arriving on time for the Group C opener against Guinea on Monday.

Sports Brief also reported that Cameroon were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw by 10-man Guinea in their opening game in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Guinea took the lead but were reduced to ten men after captain Francois Kamano was shown a red card for his challenge on Cameroon's Frank Magri.

Mohamed Bayo opened the scoring after 10 minutes but were dealt a major blow after Kamano was sent off towards the end of the first half.
