FootballJose Mourinho Savagely Booed by Milan Fans in Roma Defeat
- Roma’s European hopes were dented on Sunday after a loss to Milan
- Milan emerged 3-1 winners in the Serie A clash
- Mourinho was subjected to boos from the home fans
There was no love lost between Jose Mourinho and Milan fans as the Portuguese manager was heavily jeered on his return to the San Siro.
Mourinho’s Roma hit a new low in their Serie A campaign, succumbing to a 3-1 loss to the Rossoneri on Sunday, January 14.
The home team took the lead early through Yacine Adli, who scored with a neat shot to the bottom corner in what was his first goal for the club.
As reported by Sempremilan.com, former Arsenal man Olivier Giroud then doubled the lead early in the second half, nodding in Simon Kjaer’s cross.
Roma halved the deficit through Leandro Paredes, who converted a penalty to set up a tense finish, but it was Milan who had the last laugh as they added a third through Theo Hernandez’s powerful shot which came in off the crossbar.
Mourinho receives hostile reception
Roma had to play the 90 minutes without their tactician in the dugout.
Mourinho was serving a touchline ban after receiving his second red card of the season, and had to watch the game from the stands.
Still, this did not stop Milan players from making their feelings towards Mourinho known. As the former Chelsea boss’ image appeared on the big screen, it was met with loud boos from the home fans.
It came as no surprise that Mourinho is not a favourite among Milan fans, especially because of his association with city rivals Inter.
At Inter, Mourinho had a successful two-year stint where he won five trophies, including the UEFA Champions League in 2010. It was the club’s first-ever European trophy.

Mourinho’s rant about modern football.
It has been a week to forget for Mourinho.
Only days before the Milan game, the 60-year-old suffered a 1-0 defeat against Lazio in the Derby della Capitale.
After the game, the Roma boss went on a viral rant about modern football, as he criticized the VAR for apparently encouraging players to dive in 2024.
