- Real Madrid beat Barcelona 4-1 to win the Spanish Super Cup
- Thibaut Courtois announced he's expecting a baby two days ago
- The Belgian goalkeeper is out of action till April with an ACL injury
Thibaut Courtois is the happiest member of the Real Madrid squad and had double celebrations despite not playing a part in the Spanish Super Cup triumph over archrivals, FC Barcelona.
Madrid subdued Atletico Madrid 4-3 in the semi-final to set up an El Clasico Super Cup with Barcelona for the second straight season in Saudi Arabia.
Vinicius Jr was in red-hot form and scored a first-half hat-trick against La Blaugrana to avenge last season’s loss in the same competition the previous season, making history as the first player to do so via Squawka.
Courtois announced he's expecting a baby
Goalkeeper Courtois was not with the team in Riyadh as he continues his rehabilitation from an ACL injury he suffered in training at the beginning of the season.
Two days before the final, he and his wife Mishel Gerzig shared a joint post on Instagram, announcing they are expecting their first child six months after marrying.
They shared a photo of the Belgian shot-stopper kneeling on one knee and kissing the baby bump with a telling caption.
“Our love continues to grow; we can't wait to meet you #SpringBaby,” he wrote.
Thibaut and Israeli model, Mishel, had been in a relationship since 2021 after connecting on Instagram when the former Chelsea man commented on her picture.
They got engaged in June 2022 before marrying a year later and are now expecting the fourth addition to their family, having adopted a dog months after their engagement.
The timeline for his return from injury is set in April. Madrid signed Spanish goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, who replaced Courtois after his departure from Chelsea on loan to cover the rest of the season.
