Besiktas forward Vincent Aboubakar could be out of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations after suffering a serious injury in training on Friday.
The 2021 AFCON Golden Boot winner will be assessed by the medical team of Cameroon in the next few days to determine the severity of the knock.
However, it is understood that he might not be available for the Indomitable Lions' opener against Guinea in Group C.
According to CFOOT Cameroun, early diagnosis shows the player will miss the 2023 tournament in Ivory Coast.
The former Al-Nassr attacker led Cameroon to their fifth AFCON title in 2017 before top scoring at the tournament on home soil two years ago.
Aboubakar's injury is a huge setback for the five-time African champions, whose preparations have been marred by Andre Onana's controversies.
The Manchester United goalkeeper is yet to report to camp despite the competition starting on Saturday, January 13.
Onana is expected to feature for the Red Devils in their match against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday before leaving for Ivory Coast for Cameroon's opener on Monday, as reported by Reuters.
Rigobert Song is expected to recall veteran striker Eric Maxim Choupo Moting as a replacement for Aboubakar.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Cameroonian forward, Vincent Aboubakar has broken his silence following his exclusion from the Besiktas team.
The 31-year-old and four other players were sidelined by the Turkish club due to alleged poor performance and 'incompatibilities within the team'.
Former Manchester United defender, Eric Bailly, plus Jean Onana, Rachid Ghezzal, and Valentin Rosier, have all been suspended by the Super Lig club.

Sports Brief also reported that Cameroonian forward, Vincent Aboubakar is demanding a public apology from Turkish club Besiktas.
The 31-year-old has been suspended by the club, citing poor performance and incompatibilities within the team as reasons for his exclusion.
However, Pini Zahavi, agent of the player has hit hard at the club, threatening the departure of the player in January for what he describes as disrespect.
