Super Eagles star Ahmed Musa is leading Nigeria to the Africa Cup of Nations as a captain for the second time in history.
The former Leicester City forward's inclusion in the 25-man squad to represent Nigeria at the 34th edition of the biggest football event on the continent came under severe criticism from some fans on social media.
Sports Briefs takes a look at the two elements the former CSKA Moscow forward adds to the Nigerian team at the competition.
Leadership
The former Kano Pillars forward was named the team's captain for the competition and is obviously the coach's best decision.
The 31-year-old is the oldest player on the team and the most respected among the youngsters; his leadership skills are an added advantage for the Super Eagles.
Countries like Senegal, Ghana, Morocco, Tunisia, and Algeria still have some of their old players in their squads for the competition.
Experience
This would be Musa's fourth Africa Cup of Nations, as he was present in the 2013, 2019, and 2021 editions.
He was part of the squad that won the tournament in South Africa in 2013, scoring one goal in the semi-final against Mali.
The Sivasspor forward remains Nigeria's all-time highest goalscorer in the FIFA World Cup.
Musa has turned up on different occasions for the team on the big stage; sharing his experience with the youngsters in the team could be one of the 'ingredients' needed to win Nigeria's fourth AFCON title.
Ideye compares Musa's situation to Ronaldo
Sports Brief previously reported on former Nigerian international Brown Ideye comparing the situation of Ahmed Musa in the Super Eagles team to Cristiano Ronaldo in the Portuguese national team.
The AFCON 2013 winner claimed that the former Juventus forward is still the captain of Portugal despite his age, but there is a complaint about Musa's inclusion in the AFCON squad.
