Harambee Stars defender Erick 'Marcelo' Ouma Otieno has completed a high-profile transfer from AIK in Sweden to Polish champions Rakow Czestochowa.
The unveiling of the Harambee Stars on Thursday, January 11, 2024, was nothing short of stylish.
Ouma, who departed from Swedish top-flight side AIK, ended speculation about his future by signing a two-year deal with an option for additional years with the Rakow.
Czestochowa produced a video to make the unveiling memorable, showcasing Ouma's arrival at the club's stores in freezing temperatures.
“Erick is a player who fits our philosophy perfectly. He is fast, aggressive, and always plays with intensity. Thanks to his qualities on the ball and his consistent play with both feet, he will be an option for both sides as a shuttle player in our system,” said Sporting Director Samuel Cárdenas, as quoted by Pulse Sports.
Born in Nairobi on September 27, 1996, Ouma began his football journey with perennial Kenyan champions Gor Mahia FC before venturing abroad.
After stints in Georgia with Kolkheti-1913 and in Albania with KS Kastrioti, he found his stride in Sweden with Vasalunds IF.
His dedication paved the way for a move to AIK in January 2020, where he made 103 appearances, scored four goals and gave 15 assists.
Standing at 170 centimetres tall, Ouma has represented Kenya internationally with 38 caps.
AIK will receive a substantial transfer fee for Ouma, with Vasalund guaranteed a 30 per cent share of the windfall. The reported figure for the transfer is over Ksh150 million.
“Thank you for the support you have given me over the years. For the great memories we made and shared. I will always be grateful for donning this shirt 104 times in competition and running out with you,” Ouma posted on his Facebook account.

In December 2023, reported when AIK's director of football, Thomas Bernsten, shed light on the potential circumstances that could lead to the departure of Ouma.
Despite significant interest from various European clubs, AIK turned down multiple offers for the fullback.
He acknowledged the club's attractiveness but highlighted that the club's aim is not just to lure players with the pleasantness of Stockholm.
