Former Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has explained why Nigeria are one of the favourites to win the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
The Benin Republic national team coach led Nigeria to a third-place finish in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations and the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
Rohr failed to see the Squirrels through to this year's AFCON after being knocked out in the qualifying series by Senegal and Mozambique.
In an interview with journalist, Osasu Obayiuwana, as per Brila, the former Nigerian national team coach statedthe Super Eagles are among the favourites to win the competition.
"Nigeria is one of the favourites, of course. The strikers are fantastic, and they need stability to be complete," he said. "The midfielder can find the strikers with direct football, and sometimes you have to take risks."
While naming the West African nation as one of the favourites to win the continental showpiece, the German coach highlighted other teams competing with the Super Eagles.
"You have Morocco, Algeria, and the Ivory Coast at home; also, it's dangerous. And I think one team can make a surprise," he added.
"Nigeria is, for me, able to go into the final. If everything is done well and if everything is okay with the players, no more injuries now they lost Boniface, replaced by Moffi, who is an excellent player, playing very well in Nice."
Nigeria's first game in the competition will be against Equatorial Guinea at the Olympic Stadium of Ebimpe, on Sunday, January 14.
