Ghana arrived in the Ivory Coast for the 34th edition of the Africa Cup of Nations in high spirits, with star player Mohammed Kudus keen to make history for the West Africans.

The Black Stars, who are four-time winners of the continental trophy, are facing a 42-year drought as they have failed to win Africa’s biggest football competition since 1982.

According to Ghana Soccernet, Ghana’s hopes of ending its AFCON drought lie primarily on the shoulders of Kudus, and the West Ham forward cannot wait to be on the pitch for his nation.

“Hi Ghanaian fans, I’m happy to be here. And I can’t wait for the tournament to start. Let’s go Ghana,” Kudus said during a photo shoot with CAF.

Ghana will open their campaign against Cape Verde on Sunday, January 14, before further games against seven-time champions Egypt and Mozambique in Group B of the tournament.

Ayew compares AFCON to World Cup

Meanwhile, Ghaha skipper, Andre Ayew, has stirred controversy after claiming winning the Africa Cup of Nations is more difficult than the FIFA World Cup, GOAL reports.

The Ivory Coast AFCON edition will be Ayew's eighth appearance in Africa’s biggest football competition, where the 24-year-old forward has previously been a losing finalist with the Black Stars.

The 2023 AFCON edition will be another test to see if Ghana have what it takes to dominate Africa, having failed on many occasions despite arriving at certain tournaments as title favourites.

Stonebwoy performs for Black Stars

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that top Ghanaian rapper Stonebwoy wowed Black Stars players with an exciting performance ahead of the team's departure to Ivory Coast for the Africa Cup of Nations.

The senior national team's players and management were given a special send-off in Kumasi on Tuesday night following their final training session.

The occasion, which was attended by the country's President, Nana Akufo-Addo, saw the music star entertaining the team as part of efforts to bolster their spirit for the competition.
