  • Newcastle United admits they will be forced to sell some of their top players
  • This is after a loss of £73 million and possible breaches of the Premier League’s FFP
  • Some of their top stars are already attractive to rival clubs who could pounce

Newcastle United have admitted they must make player sales to comply with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules after recording losses for the second straight year.

The Magpies reported a loss of £73 million in the last financial year, taking their losses to £ 150 million in two years, exceeding the league’s allowed £ 105 million in three seasons.

Sports Brief looks at five players rivals could target to take advantage of Newcastle's situation.

Newcastle players rivals could target

1. Alexander Isak

The Swedish striker fits the profile of many Premier League rivals and would do a better job upfront. Per London World, Chelsea will have scouts watching Newcastle vs Manchester City tomorrow, and it is believed the striker could be their priority. It won’t be easy as he was signed for £63m 18 months ago.

2. Bruno Guimaraes

The Brazilian midfielder had been on the radar of rivals a few months into his arrival at St. James Park. Per Mirror UK, he has a release clause of £99mil with Liverpool and Chelsea interested. Paris Saint-Germain have also been rumoured to be watching the former Lyon midfielder.

3. Sven Botman

The Dutch defender moved to England from Lille in 2022 for £32mil. Manchester City, United and Tottenham have all watched the tall defender in the past, and this presents an opportunity to rekindle their interest.

4. Anthony Gordons

The English attacker switched from Everton to Newcastle United in the summer but has previously been on Chelsea's radar. He is one of the players rivals could aim at despite joining the Toons for £40mil in August.

5. Miguel Almiron

Another top star who the club could cash out on to raise funds and bail themselves out of their current woes. The Paraguayan has received a new lease of life under Eddie Howe.

These five stars are players who are attractive to rivals, but academy stars who could generate straight profit for the club are the best fit. This includes the Longstaff brothers, Matty and Sean, and breakout star Lewis Miley.

Fans troll Trippier’s performance against Chelsea

Sports Brief reported on fans trolling Kieran Trippier after his disastrous performance against Chelsea, which led to Newcastle’s elimination from the Carabao Cup.

They dug up a tweet of the England international right-back hailing the Blues ahead of their UEFA Champions League match against Atletico Madrid in 2014.
