With a staggering 16 goals and eight assists, according to data coursey of Fotmob, the Super Eagles forward has developed into one of Europe’s elite footballing prospects, with many clubs potentially eyeing a swoop for the forward.

Nonetheless, amid his amazing run of form, the Nigerian striker has hailed his club coach, Xabi Alonso, attributing his blissful form to the 42-year-old.

Boniface hails Alonso

The talismanic forward, who was a guest on the ObiOnePodcast, touched on the impact the Spanish gaffer has had on the immense Bundesliga start.

"Everyone recognised him as an exceptional player. Alonso was phenomenal and achieved success in every aspect of football. He has truly been a tremendous help to me, offering valuable advice," shared Boniface.

Further touching on how he has impacted his goalscoring form, he highlighted:

“He gave me the example of Didier Drogba, saying he was big and strong, and he wants the same from me. He was trying to put that type of mentality in my head because I’m the type of guy who just wants to have a good game.
Even if I’m not scoring, it doesn’t matter as long as we are winning. But he wants to try to change that mentality so that I can become a fighter. He’s a top, top coach.”

Regrettably, Boniface has encountered a setback, facing an injury that will keep him sidelined until April. The forward suffered a groin injury during the Africa Cup of Nations training camp with the Super Eagles.

Despite this setback, the forward remains optimistic and looks forward to cheering on his teammates from the sidelines as he hopes for a swift recovery to contribute to his club's pursuit of their first-ever Bundesliga title.

Boniface breaks silence after injury

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Super Eagles forward, Victor Boniface, has expressed his disappointment after being forced to withdraw from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations due to an injury.

The Bayer Leverkusen star is expected to be out of action till April at the barest minimum.

Boniface’s absence serves as a huge blow for the German outfit, as they are in pursuit of their maiden Bundesliga title.
