FootballCape Town Spurs CEO Labels Moroka Swallows Scoreline Jab ‘Disrespectful’
- Cape Town Spurs CEO Alexi Efstathiou failed to hide his disappointment following a PSL verdict
- Moroka Swallows were fined R1 million by the league with their opponents receiving a walkover
- Spurs will resume the DStv Premiership 15 points behind The Dube Birds and 14 from safety
Moroka Swallows escaped any existence-threatening punishments and will have their DStv Premiership survival in their own hands.
Prime relegation candidates, Cape Town Spurs saw their lifeline extinguished when their hopes of at least a large points deduction for the Dube Birds did not materialise.
The Urban Warriors' CEO, Alexi Efstathiou was not pleased with the conduct of his Swallows counterpart following the PSL disciplinary committee's verdict.
The Dobsonville-based club's CEO, David Mogashoa was quick to take to social media to mock the Capetonians, posting 'Moroka Swallows 1-0 Cape Town Spurs' on X.
Efstathiou told iDiskiTimes:
"The social media comments from David Mogashoa shows the disrespect he has for the ruling. He’s actually got no remorse."
Swallows received a partially suspended fine and the two clubs affected by the cancellations received 3-0 walkovers.
Mogashoa's X post was in response to a letter sent from Spurs to the PSL suggesting a harsh punishment was required.
Fans immediately accused Spurs of trying to avoid relegation through Swallows' turmoil. Efstathiou explained there was no malicious intent in the letter, stating:
"It was just to bring in some points regarding our thinking. This could lead to further issues at some point if it’s not dealt with correctly."
Spurs are 14 points from safety and 15 points from Swallows, giving them a mammoth task when the league resumes in February.
It remains to be seen how the Swallows team looks when it returns, with top-scorer Tshegofatso Mabasa possibly on his way out, as reported by FARPost.
