Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has disclosed Jose Peseiro's side's target at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
The three-time African champions last won the competition in 2013 when it was held in South Africa.
After an 11-year wait, the Super Eagles are being rated as one of the favourites to win the tournament in Ivory Coast alongside other top sides like Senegal, Morocco, Algeria, and Egypt.
Ahead of the biggest Africa football tournament in Abidjan, Nigerian international Musa has admitted that the Super Eagles are one of the favourites to win the competition and also discloses their target, according to a report by Soccernet.
"We have been talking to each other that this is the time for us to go out there and shine, he said.
"With the players in the 25-man squad, you can't say we cannot win it when you hear the names. But in football, anything can happen, but we have the confidence because the target we have is to win the AFCON."
Peseiro's side faces a tricky tie in the group stage as they will face the host nation, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau.
The 2013 African champions will begin their 2023 AFCON journey with a game against the Elephants of Equatorial Guinea on Sunday, January 14.
Ideye compares Musa's Eagles situation to Ronaldo
Sports Brief earlier reported on Super Eagles icon Brown Ideye comparing the situation of Musa in the Nigerian national team to Cristiano Ronaldo in the Portuguese national team.
The former CSKA Moscow winger will appear in his fourth AFCON tournament after featuring in the 2013, 2019, and 2021 editions.
The former Dynamo Kyiv forward claimed that the former Manchester United star is still the captain of Portugal despite his age, but there is a complaint about Musa's inclusion in the AFCON squad.
