The SS Lazio versus AS Roma Coppa Italia clash was marked by chaotic scenes that saw four red cards flashed by the referee.
The two Italian giants faced off on Wednesday night in a thrilling encounter staged at Stadio Olimpico.
According to the BBC, Mattia Zaccagni netted the only goal of the match in the 51st minute to send Lazio to the semi-final of the tournament.
Zaccagni's winner was through a penalty awarded by the video assistant referee for a foul on Valentin Castellanos by Roma's Dean Huijsen.
However, as predicted, the match was not short of drama, with Roma ace, Edoardo Bove struck by a bottle of beer thrown from the stands.
The heated Derby della Capitale also saw three players sent off, with the Giallorossi manager, Mourinho also receiving his marching orders.
Lazio vs Roma descends into chaos
The Mirror reports that Lazio winger, Pedro - who once played for Roma - was the first person to be sent off when he received a second yellow in the 96th minute.
Roma's Sardar Azmoun was red-carded soon after for clipping Lazio's Nicolo Rovella before Gianluca Mancini - also a Roma player - was also sent off by the official.
Mourinho's red card in the tie was his second in just four days, having been handed his marching orders during his side's 1-1 draw against Atalanta last Sunday.
The former Premier League boss has now been dismissed on six occasions in the last two seasons. Roma will be back in action on Sunday against AC Milan in Serie A.
