Ahead of the competition, the Senegal squad visited the president of the country, Macky Sall, and Mane claimed that he was congratulated by him, according to a report by All Football.

"Honestly, I am happy with the fact the president has congratulated me just as much as, well, I would say not just my teammates," he said.
"I think that all the people have congratulated me and wished me luck, so I am happy, and I hope that it will be okay."

The 31-year-old is one of the players the Teranga Lions depend on to retain the title after their triumph in the 2021 edition.

Senegal are drawn alongside Cameroon, Guinea, and Gambia in Group C. The Teranga Lions will start their title defence against the Scorpions before battling the Indomitable Lions.

Mane builds stadium in his hometown, Bambali

Sports Brief earlier reported that Sadio Mane continued his developmental works in Senegal by building a new stadium for the people of his hometown, Bambali.

The former Bayern Munich star returned to his hometown to formally open the facility ahead of his Teranga Lions' training camp for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

One year ago, Mane was spotted playing on a muddy pitch in Bambali after a tough season in Europe, which saw him depart Bayern Munich.
