The Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) buzz is palpable, and a host of teams and fans are eager to ignite the stages in Ivory Coast with excitement.

The unprecedented numbers of elite football players posed by the 24 participating teams have made it even more difficult for fans and pundits alike to make predictions with regard to how the competition will unfold.

However, in the build-up to the competition, fans of Bafana Bafana have taken to social media to share their predictions on which teams will emerge victorious in the AFCON tournament.

Bafana Bafana fans predict AFCON winner

Leading up to the competition, South African sports journalist Thomas Mlambo engaged fans in a lively discussion about their predictions for the upcoming tournament in Ivory Coast on social media.

Mlambo's post has triggered enthusiastic responses, with fans passionately declaring their AFCON winner.

@djstago, displaying a playful attitude, cheekily responded:

“Tough question ‼️🙈 VAR will win AFCON for Senegal 🇸🇳”

@visse_ss expressed strong conviction:

“Bafana Bafana.”

@Reginal90427485, emphasising historical parallels, commented:

“Bafana Bafana, for one reason, this year's calendar is similar to that of 1996 when we won AFCON 🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦”

@Dlangankutha, showcasing patriotism despite challenges faced by Hugo Broos’ team, wrote:

“Bafana Bafana, our boys must eat those millions!”

However, @BlaqMarvl took a different stance, not holding back on scepticism and aiming a subtle dig at South Africa:

“I know which team is NOT going to win it.”

While predicting the competition winner remains a challenging task, one thing widely agreed upon is that the AFCON in Ivory Coast will undoubtedly keep many on the edge of their seats.

Top strikers ahead of AFCON

Sports Brief in a previous report, highlighted a list of top strikers to keep close tabs on during the course of the AFCON tournaments.

Senegalese forward Sadio Mane, Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen, Egypt’s Mohamed Salah and Serhou Guirassy top this list.

Forward Vincent Aboubakar was the AFCON top scorers' award winner at the previously organised edition of the competition hosted in his native Cameroon.
