The Super Eagles departed from Muritala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on Wednesday morning and arrived in Abidjan before 2pm local time.

To reflect the national colours, officials and players donned traditional white kaftans with green caps, with superstars like Victor Osimhen, Samuel Chukwueze, and captain Ahmed Musa all rocking the native attire.

On Tuesday night, the team were hosted to a farewell dinner by Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, before embarking on their journey to the AFCON, where they will lead the charge to win the tournament for a fourth time in Nigeria’s history.

Nigeria fans doubt AFCON pedigree

Meanwhile, GOAL reports that Nigeria fans have cast their doubts on the Super Eagles' ability to challenge for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations title, set to be contested in Ivory Coast.

They suffered a surprise 2-0 defeat against Guinea in a friendly game, which has caused fans to react negatively to the result, with many stating the team is heading to Ivory Coast for a fashion show.

Nigeria has been tagged as one of the favourites to win the 2023 AFCON, but recent results of the national team have not given the fans confidence that the team are good enough to win the tournament.

Peseiro explain reasons for Guinea loss

Sports Brief also previously reported Nigeria lost their final international friendly against Guinea as they prepared for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Super Eagles, who were said to have fielded a lesser line-up, suffered a 2-0 setback against Guinea which many have yet to forgive the team for.

The lacklustre performance of Jose Peseiro's team was summed up when attacker, Moses Simon missed a penalty that would have restored parity.
