Nigeria has received a massive boost ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations after confirmation that Leicester City forward, Kelechi Iheanacho will be available for the tournament.
The 27-year-old was a major doubt for the continental competition in the Ivory Coast after battling injuries that prevented him from attending the team’s training camp in Abu Dhabi.
According to Complete Sports, Iheanacho is expected to join his Super Eagles teammates in Lagos later today (January 9), when they will be hosted to a send-forth dinner by the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The Nigerian forward, who was undergoing rehabilitation due to the injury he suffered while on club duties at Leicester City, will jet out with the rest of the squad to Ivory Coast for the tournament.
The AFCON will run from January 13 to February 11, and Nigeria is bidding to win the trophy for the third time after three previous successes in 1980, 1994, and 2013.
Peseiro provides Iheanacho fitness update
Meanwhile, Super Eagles manager, Jose Peseiro has confirmed that Iheanacho has finished his treatment and will be available for the Africa Cup of Nations, All Nigeria Soccer reports.
The 27-year-old forward, who already has 50 caps for the Super Eagles, was a huge doubt for the continental showpiece after picking up an injury while on duty for Leicester.
It is, however, still unclear if Iheanacho will be available for selection for the Super Eagles' first AFCON group-stage game against Equatorial Guinea on January 14.

Sports Brief also previously reported Nigeria has called on Terem Moffi to replace injured Bayer Leverkusen striker, Victor Boniface in the team's Africa Cup of Nations roster.

FootballThe 24-year-old was unexpectedly left out of coach Jose Peseiro's final 25-man squad, with Victor Osimhen, Iheanacho, Boniface, and Sadiq Umar chosen ahead of him.
The Nigeria Football Federation will now await approval from the Confederation of African Football and Moffi's club - OGC Nice - before registering the player for the AFCON.
