FootballAlfred Scriven: Harambee Stars Striker Becomes a Free Agent After Parting Ways With Norwegian Side
- Harambee Stars striker Alfred Scriven has reportedly been released by IL Hødd
- The 25-year-old Kenyan is now a free agent, having come from Mjondalen
- Scriven had loan spells with Ull/Kisa and Asker in 2019 and 2020
Harambee Stars striker Alfred Scriven is now a free agent following his release from IL Hødd after the Norwegian Division One season in 2023.
The Kenyan arrived from Mjondalen IF in 2021 and has made 77 appearances, scoring 22 times and providing six assists.
The 25-year-old has spent eight years of his professional career in Norway, having lived in Kenya for 16 years.
Scriven's Norwegian journey began in 2015 when he joined Hallingdal, playing in the third and fourth tiers of Norwegian football. His trajectory led him to Mjondalen IF in the Norwegian second tier in 2018, where he initially played for their second-tier team in the fourth division.
The striker experienced loan spells with Ull/Kisa and Asker in 2019 and 2020, with the teams participating in the first and second divisions, respectively. He eventually found a home in the second-tier side IL Hødd, where he played until the conclusion of the last season.
Despite his overseas success, Scriven has earned only two caps for the Harambee Stars, with his debut appearance against Iran last March. Coach Firat justified Scriven's call-up in 2023, emphasizing the need for more physicality in the team.
"He is a hardworking player, very aggressive, especially in aerial duels. He brings a dimension that I find lacking in the team. The Kenyan league is comparatively softer, and I've observed that physical play is not as prevalent here. Every minor contact is deemed a foul," stated Firat, as reported by Pulse Sports.
Scriven admitted to having been caught by surprise by Firat’s call-up.

As Scriven searches for a new club, he hopes to secure ample playing time to remain an essential part of Firat's plans in what promises to be a crucial year for the Harambee Stars.
