Famous football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed on his official handle on X that Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface will miss the AFCON after sustaining a a groin injury.

According to a report by the Daily Post, the former Bodo/Glimt forward is expected to be out of action for six weeks and will return to Germany, where he will begin treatment for the injury.

Boniface's injury will come as bad news for Jose Peseiro as he would be without another top striker for the tournament after losing Taiwo Awoniyi to injury.

The Nigerian striker has been in top form since joining Leverkusen last summer, and he is one of the reasons why Xabi Alonso's side are top of the German Bundesliga league.

Former Lorient striker Terem Moffi is expected to replace Boniface in the squad before the tournament kicks off.

Adepoju backs Super Eagles for AFCON

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Ex-Nigeria international Mutiu Adepoju has approved the Super Eagles' final 25-man list for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations and believes the team is good enough to win the title.

Manager Jose Peseiro released Nigeria’s final squad to the competition in Ivory Coast, with top stars like Victor Osimhen, Alex Iwobi and Victor Boniface all making the final cut to the AFCON.

Adepoju opined that this is an opportunity for Nigeria to lift its fourth continental title due to the pedigree of the players Peseiro has selected.
