AFCON 2023: Teams With the Most to Prove in the Tournament, From Nigeria to Morocco
FootballAFCON 2023: Alex Iwobi Sends a Message to Nigeria Ahead of Tournament
- Alex Iwobi is confident ahead of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations
- The Fulham star feels Nigeria can go far in the competition
- Nigeria last won the tournament in 2013 and are favourites to win it this time
Alex Iwobi is heading into the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations high in confidence.
Iwobi and Nigeria are one of the favourites to win the tournament since they have one of the most talented squads at the tournament.
Nigeria last won the tournament in 2013 and have been accused many times of failing to live up to the lofty expectations in previous tournaments.
Before the 2013 title, the last title they won was in 1994, and nothing would mean much more to Nigerians than a fourth title in their 20th appearance in the competition, per CAF.
The Super Eagles were eliminated in the Round of 16 in the last edition by Tunisia. Therefore, they'll need to be better since there are other dangerous teams in Cote d'Ivoire.

The Fulham forward was sent off in the Round of 16 against Tunisia in the 2021 edition, and he has made a promise to Nigerians.
“We have confidence we can go far in this competition, but we have to prove it and assure the fans that we can prove ourselves. They can be sure we will make the nation proud,” via Complete Sports.
The former Arsenal star said their team is talented.
“The fans know the quality we have in the team, from each man that is in the squad and the ones that didn’t make the squad, there is a lot of talents in the squad.”
Nigeria kick off their tournament on Sunday, January 14 against Equatorial Guinea.
Super Eagles snubbed as AFCON favourite
Sports Brief, in a previous report, stated Ivory Coast Football Federation chief Yacine Diallo has snubbed Nigeria’s Super Eagles whilst naming his favourite teams to win the AFCON.
The 63-year-old recently addressed various topics in the media, discussing his nation's preparation for the tournament. Instead of choosing the West African nation, he opted for defending champions Senegal, along with two North African nations, Egypt and Morocco.
