The countdown to the 34th edition of Africa’s biennial football spectacle, the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), is in full swing.
A host of nations and elite players are set and eager to make a statement for their respective countries at the Mundial in Ivory Coast.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria are not left out as they are heavily tipped to leave a mark and, for others, go all the way to clinch the title in Ivory Coast.
However, ahead of the showdown, a forward of the three-time AFCON champions has opened up on his personal target for the competition in a recent interview.
Super Eagles forward on AFCON target
Atalanta and Nigeria forward Ademola Lookman, speaking in an interview with media outlet Soccernet, touched on his preparation and readiness for the upcoming AFCON.
When quizzed about his personal target for the competition, the 26-year-old stated:
“Yeah, just like everyone, I want to give my best for the team and bring my A-game to this tournament for Nigeria and for the fans, and yeah, we will see as a team where that takes us.”
The former RB Leipzig forward, who has been in immense form since his move to the Italian Serie A, will be among the array of forwards Jose Peseiro will be counting on to pedal his team’s course to AFCON glory, as largely acknowledged to the media.
The Nigeria national team will be seeking their first AFCON title since their odds-defiling victory in South Africa in 2013.

FootballSports Brief in a previous report stated Ivory Coast Football Federation chief Yacine Diallo has snubbed Nigeria’s Super Eagles whilst naming his favourite teams to win the AFCON.
The 63-year-old recently addressed various topics in the media, discussing his nation's preparation for the tournament. Instead of choosing the West African nation, he opted for defending champions Senegal, along with two North African nations, Egypt and Morocco.
